Ok, eventually I comment the TechNet chat, too. If Further improvements to IE will require enhancements to the underlying OS. is the truth, then IE is based on bad design (else why can Mozilla and Opera still be up to date?) - even though it makes sense that MS wants to push Longhorn (along with the integrated TCPA implementation Palladium) to be the securest Wintel platform, as the statement has been made in respond to a question about security. But does this imply that full CSS2 (or any other unsupported w3c standard) won?t be possible for legacy OS'es? No. Does it mean that there won?t be any updates for IE6 available (other then bug fixes)? Maybe, as MS is still a non non-profit company and as such want to sell it (upcoming) products.

Anyway, there is no definite conclusion for the future of IE...
