Just to prove that pseudo complex layouts are possible without tables, I created this. Eventually the content will describe the way how it's been done, but I don't feel like writing anymore now... The hardest part has been the "div filling the whole height of the browser" stuff in strict mode (thanks to RabYak, dew and yossarian on #javascript for their help) and the content div height still needs to be adjusted via JS, but it was fun and maybe I'm able to resolve the content height issue someday soon :)
